Welcome to Beresford
A warm and friendly community

On the eastern coast of the Chaleur Bay just north of the City of Bathurst and south of the Village of Nigadoo lies the town of Beresford.
Even though it is named after William Carr Beresford, an English lord, the majority of the 4450 citizens of Beresford are French, with a great number of them being fluent in both official languages.

In addition to all essential services, Beresford offers its residents and visitors a variety of recreational infrastructures and activities. Some of these are the Réal-Boudreau Center, an arena with a seating capacity of 1216; the Sportek-Curling Center; a bowling alley; a public beach; a public library; five playgrounds; two tennis courts; two softball fields; two baseball fields; a soccer field; a skateboard and roller blade court; a drive-in theatre; a campground; and many restaurants, motels and bars. Children from kindergarten to the eighth grade attend the Carrefour Étudiant school. The school also houses an auditorium, a cafeteria, a gymnasium and various workshops. Two excellent golf courses and a movie theatre are just a short drive away in the neighboring City of Bathurst.

Beresford offers all the conveniences of a town while retaining the warmth and intimacy of country living. Much natural beauty can be found in Beresford, in its parks and along the bank of its rivers and brooks. But what really sets us apart is having a butterfly of our own. The Maritime Ringlet butterfly is a small butterfly that lives almost exclusively in the salt marshes of the Chaleur Bay region. In fact, this butterfly has an extremely small global distribution and its largest population is located right here in the Beresford salt marshes.
